Truth and Reconciliation Day

Today at JAWS High School, our students and staff came together to recognize and honour Truth and Reconciliation Day.

We wore orange shirts and ribbon skirts as a symbol of remembrance and solidarity with Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. As a school community, we are committed to acknowledging the past and working toward a better future through education, reflection, and meaningful action.

Our entrance was filled with messages of hope and healing reminding us all of the importance of compassion, understanding, and truth. In our flex space, students added positive messages on leaves, sharing their support and commitment to reconciliation.

Our Foods class prepared bannock, connecting us to traditional Indigenous practices and bringing our school community together through shared experiences. We also took time to learn from a Traditional Medicine presentation, deepening our understanding of Indigenous knowledge and cultural practices.

Teachers and staff shared a variety of educational resources to support classroom discussions and reflection, helping ensure every student had the opportunity to engage meaningfully in this important day.

At JAWS, we continue to learn, listen, and grow — not just today, but every day — as part of our ongoing journey toward truth, reconciliation, and respect.

Every Child Matters.
